The new series based on book was recognised in the New York Times 100 Notable Books of 2019 list. The Institute will be hitting our screens via later this year.
The upcoming television series was developed by producers Jack Bender and Benjamin Cavell. Its starry cast includes and Mary-Louise Parker as well as Brendan Beiser, Joe Freeman and Simone Miller, among others. After his parents are murdered 12-year-old Luke Ellis, (Freeman) a young boy with telepathic abilities, is kidnapped and wakes up in the Institute. The story follows him and his fellow residents who all have similar psychological capabilities to him.
Mrs Sigsby, played by Parker, the director of the Institute and her staff are dedicated to extracting from the minds of these young extranormal children.
The novel received a largely positive response with Publishers Weekly giving it a rave review. It stated: "King wows with the most gut-wrenching tale of kids triumphing over evil."
Kirkus Reviews said: "King fans won't be disappointed."
Booklist's Carl Hays also said: "King devotees will, of course, devour this latest suspenseful page-turner, but any reader looking for a smart thriller about an unusual black ops organization will find this compelling and rewarding.
Laura Miller of The New York Times said: "Of all the cosmic menaces that King's heroes have battled, this slow creep into inhumanity may be the most terrifying yet because it is all too real."
With glowing reviews like this, the series is set to be a hit.
The Institute will be available to watch on Amazon Prime later this year.
