Warfare stars Kit Connor and Will Poulter are set to lead the medieval zombie horror movie Rapture. Filming for the project will take place in Hungary and is set to begin later this year.

The project, which will mark playwright and director Jordan Tannahill’s feature debut, will serve as Connor and Poulter’s reunion after they both starred in Alex Garland’s A24 film Warfare. Rapture hails from the producers behind Infinity Pool, Past Lives, and The Brutalist.

Who else is in the Rapture cast?

Elite actor Manu Ríos will be joining Connor and Poulter in the lead cast of Rapture. Details about the characters the three actors will play have yet to be unveiled. The upcoming horror movie will be set in 1348 England revolving around a mysterious illness that turns victims into undead creatures craving flesh. The plot description (via Deadline) reads as follows:

“Set in Medieval England in the year 1348, the story alights on Lansley Abbey, a remote stone monastery in Yorkshire, which houses ten monks bound by a life of strict routine and devotion. Their fragile peace is disrupted by the arrival of a messenger — a man with haunting news from the outside world who rapidly shows symptoms of a mystery illness. A virulent plague is spreading through the land: marked initially by a hemorrhagic fever, it turns its victims into ‘revenants’ — restless, undead beings.”

It added, “As the contagion closes in, Lansley Abbey becomes a battleground: desperate outsiders beg for refuge while the infected threaten to overrun its walls. The monks are torn apart by a moral rift — between those who believe they must care for the sick and those who want to protect the centuries of knowledge safe-guarded by the monastery. As death is fully unleashed, so too is the brothers’ capacity for extraordinary acts of altruism and ruthless betrayal, forcing them to confront the ultimate question: what does it mean to be human?”

Poulter, whose earlier acting credits include School of Comedy, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and We’re the Millers, is best known for his performances in The Maze Runner, Midsommar, The Revenant, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and more.

Connor starred as the young Elton John in Rocketman and gained mainstream attention for his portrayal of Nick Nelson in Heartstopper. Ríos, on the other hand, has also appeared in Pedro Almodovar’s Strange Way Of Life.

Other details about Rapture are still being kept close to the vest.
