In a major reform aimed at accelerating electric vehicle adoption, the Uttar Pradesh government has simplified the EV subsidy process, eliminating the need for vehicle owners to go through dealers. Now, buyers of electric two-wheelers, cars, three-wheelers, and commercial EVs can apply directly online and receive the subsidy amount straight into their bank account.

What’s New in the EV Subsidy Process?

Previously, EV buyers in Uttar Pradesh could only apply for the state subsidy through authorized dealers, and approval came from the Transport Department headquarters. This often led to delays, limited access, and reduced enthusiasm, especially for two-wheeler owners outside major cities like Lucknow.

But now, the process has been fully digitized and decentralized. Vehicle owners can simply visit , fill out their details, upload necessary documents, and submit the application themselves. Local ARTOs (Assistant Regional Transport Officers) have been empowered to verify and approve applications, speeding up the entire process.

Subsidy Amounts by Vehicle Type

The revised scheme offers financial support across a variety of EV segments:

  • ₹5,000 for electric scooters and two-wheelers

  • ₹1,00,000 for electric cars

  • ₹1,00,000 for electric goods vehicles

  • Up to ₹20,00,000 for electric buses

These subsidies are in addition to exemptions on registration and road tax, making EV ownership more affordable and attractive for consumers.

ARTO Budget Enhanced to Speed Up Approvals

To tackle the growing number of applications and prevent daily budget exhaustion, the government has also increased the daily subsidy approval limit for ARTO offices:

  • Earlier limit: ₹5 lakh per day

  • New limit: ₹15 lakh per day

This increase allows officials to process more applications without delays. In Lucknow alone, out of 3,029 total applications, 2,540 applicants have already received their subsidy amount, indicating the success of the streamlined process.

How to Apply Online

To claim the subsidy, follow these simple steps:

  • Visit the official portal:

  • Click on the "EV Subsidy Scheme" section

  • Fill in your personal, vehicle, and bank account details

  • Upload documents like:

    • Vehicle invoice

    • Registration certificate

    • Aadhaar card

    • Bank passbook copy

  • Submit your application

  • Once the application is verified and approved by the ARTO, the subsidy amount will be credited directly to your bank account, usually within a few days.

    Important Conditions
    • The subsidy is available only for the first EV purchase.

    • Applications with false or misleading information will not only be rejected but may also attract legal action.

    • Make sure to apply soon after purchase, as delays may affect eligibility.

    Government’s EV Push

This move is part of the state’s broader strategy to encourage clean transportation and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. By offering financial incentives and simplifying access, the Uttar Pradesh government is hoping to boost EV sales and build a more sustainable mobility ecosystem.

According to officials, help desks and support officers are available across districts to assist applicants with any challenges. The government remains committed to improving public experience through digitization and decentralization.
