Indian cricket star Virat Kohli recently revealed why he decided to retire from T20 international cricket. Virat Kohli played a key role in winning India by 7 runs by scoring a brilliant 76 against South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. After this, he and Rohit Sharma announced farewell to T20I cricket.
In RCB Podcast, Kohli said that he took this decision keeping in mind the strength of the future team. He said that new players should get time and opportunity to get internationally prepared and experience experience. According to him, success in big tournaments like World Cup is possible only when young players have experience of playing enough matches in advance.
Kohli has played 125 matches for India in his T20 career, scoring 4188 runs at an average of 48.69. He also clarified that there was no personal reason behind his decision, but it was a part of a strategic thinking to benefit the team in a long period.
In this conversation, Kohli also shared his loyalty and emotional connection with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). When asked if he ever thought of leaving the franchise, he clearly denied. Kohli said that the love from RCB fans is more valuable for him than any trophy or medal.
RCB's performance in IPL 2025 has been commendable. The team has won 7 out of 10 matches so far and remains strong in the playoff race. This season, Kohli is also in excellent form and has scored 443 runs so far.
