and will collectively lose 14 bank branches in June as part of their parent company's major restructuring. Three Lloyds banks will be shut, while 11 Halifax branches are set to close forever, with Welwyn Garden City set to lose both in the same month.
Lloyds Banking Group, which operates Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, announced it would shut at least 254 branches in 2025 and 2026. Like many other bank chains, Lloyds' decision was based on and declining branch footfall. The Group said over-the-counter transactions fell by an average of 48% over the past five years in closing branches.
In total, 166 Lloyds branches will be lost, 107 Halifax branches have been earmarked for closure, and 31 Bank of Scotland branches will also leave the high street across 2025 and 2026.
In January this year, the Group confirmed at least 136 more branches were set to close by March 2026, adding to the 146 sites already closing in 2025, which had been previously announced.
The move will leave around 756 Lloyds Banking Group branches in the UK, down from around 2,200 a decade ago.
It's a trend seen across the high street, with NatWest confirming it would close 53 branches in the first half of 2025, Barclays being in the process of closing 99 branches by the end of this year, and
A Lloyds spokesperson said: "Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches.
"Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a banking hub."
