A man who was injured in a suspected acid attack has died in hospital. Danny Cahalane, 38, was hospitalised after the alleged assault at his home in Lipson Road, Plymouth, , on February 21. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that Mr Cahalane died on Saturday (May 3).

The family of the personal trainer said in a tribute shared by the : "As a family, we are struggling to come to terms with Danny's passing. Danny was an outstanding father and son. Danny and his mum had so much love for each other.

"He is well loved by his family and friends and as a family we cherish his love and memories. We ask the family are please given privacy and respect during this time."

Det Supt Ben Davies said the force's thoughts were with Mr Cahalane's family and friends at this sad time, adding: "The investigation into the incident... remains ongoing. Nine people have previously been charged in connection to the incident."

This includes Mr Cahalane's ex-girlfriend, mum-of-two Paris Wilson, 34, who is accused of teaming up with a gang to kidnap and kill him.

Ms Wilson worked as a probation officer helping people released from prison find work and somewhere to live. She also volunteered at Dartmoor Prison where she taught inmates to read and write.

Appearing at Plymouth Magistrates' Court in April, Ms Wilson wept in the dock and was remanded in custody until May 12, when she is expected to appear at Plymouth Crown Court, according to the . She was not asked to enter a plea on the April 24 court appearance.

She was charged with conspiracy to and kidnap Mr Cahalane and participating in the criminal activity of an organised crime group.

Nine people have been charged in connection with the alleged attack, with some also facing drug charges. Six men and two women have been charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to kidnap.

Another man has been charged with applying a corrosive fluid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure or do grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and drug offences.

Four of the men have also been charged with laundering the proceeds of crime.

Along with Ms Wilson, seven of the defendants are due to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on May 12. Another is due to appear before the same court on June 16.

Police were called to Lipson Road at about 3.55am on February 21 amid reports of a disturbance, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.

Mr Cahalane was rushed to the hospital, where his condition was described as serious. Police confirmed acid was used in the alleged attack.
