New Delhi, May 6 Just months after its official market debut, Royal Enfield has suspended sales of the Scram 440 due to a critical engine component fault. The issue lies in a part known as the “Woodruff key”which plays a crucial role in the bike’s ignition system. The company confirmed a temporary hold on deliverieswith a resolution expected in the coming weeks.

The problem involves the engine’s magneto assemblyparticularly the Woodruff keywhich helps secure rotating parts to the crankshaft. A defect in this component has led to starting issueswhere affected units reportedly fail to restart after being turned off.

This fault surfaced in the early production batch of motorcycles delivered since January 2025just weeks after the Scram 440’s high-profile unveiling at Motoverse 2024 and its launch in November 2024 at a starting price of ₹2.08 lakh (ex-showroom).
