British Superbike star Tom Tunstall is in a stable condition despite sustaining a broken bone in his neck during a . , and Shane Richardson, 29, both died after sustaining catastrophic injuries in .

Tunstall, a 47-year-old rider for SRG Specialist Risk Group Ducati, was transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital with significant back and abdominal injuries. It is still to be established whether he will undergo surgery but there remains hope he should make a full recovery from his injuries.

In the first lap of the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race, a . With Tunstall taken to hospital, five other riders received treatment at the track for minor injuries.

The meeting was abandoned after the incident, with emergency medical treatment administered at the venue.

An update on the condition of Tunstall was confirmed on Tuesday evening, with the rider continuing his recovery in hospital.

Motor Sport Vision Racing provided an update from British Superbike Medical team in a statement: "We can confirm that Tom Tunstall has sustained a broken bone in his neck and is currently under the care of a team of specialists at the Royal Stoke Hospital.

"While his condition is serious, he is stable and receiving the best possible treatment. Doctors are closely monitoring his progress and will determine in the coming days whether surgery will be necessary. At this time, a slow but hopefully full recovery is expected."

Meanwhile following the devastating news. Honda Racing, who have a team in the Supersport championship, offered a tribute to the riders involved in Monday's incident.

They said in a statement: "The motorcycle community is tightly knit and we share the profound sadness at the outcome of today’s accident at Oulton Park. Our thoughts are with the riders, their families, friends, team members and the entire BSB paddock. We go through days like this as one community."

Jenner was riding for Rapid Honda when the crash happened on the exit from turn one, Old Hall corner, on the opening lap. The young Brit died due to a catastrophic head injury at the circuit's medical centre.

Richardson died on the way to Royal Stoke University Hospital of severe chest injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the Motorcycle Racing Control Board, the Coroner and Cheshire Constabulary.

Richardson was a popular figure in racing and moved to the from New Zealand in 2019. The rider leaves behind British wife Hannah and their two young children, Max and Maddie.

Jenner, from Crowborough in East Sussex, was in just his second year racing in The Supersport Championship. He was signed by Rapid Honda after becoming a superstock champion in 2020 and 2023, and winning last year's GP2 title with 18 wins out of 20 race finishes.

Morgan McLaren-Wood, who escaped the crash with minor injuries said in a post on social media: “Struggling to find the words for what happened today.

"Rest in peace, Shane and Owen. My heart goes out to both of their families during this heartbreaking time.”
