Thudarum by Mohanlal is a global sensation, not only in India. By its fourth week, the film was expected to reach Rs 100 crore, but it has already achieved an even greater milestone by reaching Rs 200 crore worldwide. This is no little accomplishment. Along the way, Thudarum has shattered a number of records. The movie is now Mollywood’s third highest-grossing production.

With a box office total of an astounding Rs 83 crore, Thudarum has created quite a stir in Kerala. With a distributor share of about Rs 36 crore, the movie is poised to become a historical landmark. Thudarum may become the first Malayalam film to enter Kerala’s exclusive Rs 100 crore club, according to industry analysts.

Thudarum is the second-fastest Mollywood film to reach the Rs 200 crore milestone, having done so in only 17 days. Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is the only movie to surpass it in this regard.

In only 17 days, Tharun Moorthy’s film Thudarum has already made an astounding Rs 205 crore worldwide, of which Rs 115 crore has come from India and Rs 90 crore from outside. The movie has crossed the Rs 200 crore milestone, surpassing big movies like Pulimurugan, Premalu, and Tovino Thomas’ 2018: Everyone Is A Hero.

With outstanding supporting performances from Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, and Krishna Prabha, Thudarum has an impressive cast led by Mohanlal and Shobana.

“It’s easy to compare Thudarum to Mohanlal’s blockbuster Drishyam, as both films revolve around men pushed to extremes for their families,” said a portion of News18’s assessment of the movie. George Kutty is a huge movie buff, and Shanmugam, who played Benz in Thudarum, used to be a stuntman. Both guys are happy and appreciative of their possessions. But there is a fundamental difference between the two movies. Thudarum doesn’t use any lethal tactics, but Drishyam is a mystery thriller with a fantastic twist that comes out of nowhere. Perhaps this explains why the first half, which follows the structure of a mystery thriller, is more effective than the second half, which turns into a conventional vengeance drama. You’re looking for an unexpected twist after the setup. However, George Kutty is not Benz. Nevertheless, the cathartic feeling of the conclusion is not diminished by the little letdown.
