New Delhi. The Supreme Court made a very strict comment while hearing a petition to the refugee case. The apex court said that the country of India is not a Dharamshala that should be kept here for refugees from all over the world. Justice Dipankar Dutta said that the population of our country is already 140 crores, so we cannot welcome refugees from any other country. While hearing the petition of Sri Lankan Tamil citizen, a bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Vinod Chandran of Justice refused to give him relief. The Sri Lankan citizen had filed a petition against the detained and sought permission to stay in India.

The petitioner argued that his life in Sri Lanka is threatened, so he should be allowed to live as a refugee in India. The petitioner said that his wife and children are also living in India. The Supreme Court bench said that if the petitioner is in danger of life in his country, then he goes to any other country, he cannot be allowed to live in India. The petitioner was arrested in 2015 for being associated with LTTE organization. In 2018, the trial court convicted him and sentenced him to 10 years in jail.

Later, when the petitioner appealed to the High Court, his sentence was reduced to 7 years. Also, the order that he leaves India as soon as the sentence is completed. Now the petitioner has requested to stay in India, knocking on the door of the apex court. The Supreme Court bench asked the petitioner’s counsel, which officer wants to settle your client from here. Then the petitioner’s counsel said that he is a refugee and his life is in danger in Sri Lanka. On this, the court clearly said that if this is the case then it should go to another country.
