Richard Gleeson, Jonny Bairstow, and Charith Asalanka were recruited by the Mumbai Indians (MI) to replace overseas signings Will Jacks of England and Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch of South Africa, who are scheduled to depart for national service after the team’s last league game on May 26.

According to the IPL announcement, the replacement players would be available starting in the playoffs if the Mumbai Indians qualify for the elimination stages.

At a reserve price of INR 1 crore, English bowler Gleeson, who made his IPL debut playing two games for Chennai Super Kings as a substitute player last year, will take Rickelton’s spot.

MI’s Instagram post said, “Richard Gleeson is renowned for his skill in the final overs and has appeared in six Twenty20 Internationals for England.”

Richard Gleeson is a fast-medium right-arm bowler from England.

Born in Blackpool, Lancashire, on December 2, 1987, Gleeson debuted for Northamptonshire in the top division in 2015. became a mainstay in their squad in 2016 after agreeing to a three-year deal. He relocated to Lancashire in 2018.

At the age of 34, Gleeson made his debut for his country in a Twenty20 International match against India in July 2022. He concluded with stats of 3/15 after dismissing Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma in his first eight deliveries.

In addition to playing for CSK in the IPL, Gleeson has played for T20 teams such as the Melbourne Renegades in the Australian BBL and the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladeshi BPL. He joined Warwickshire in 2024 and participated in The Hundred with the London Spirit team.
