Lucknow Super Giants pacer Digvesh Singh Rathi has been suspended for one match after picking up his fifth demerit point of the season during LSG’s fiery clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.

The IPL confirmed the development through an official release, citing a Level 1 breach under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct as the reason for action.

This latest fine, which earned Digvesh a 50% match fee fine and two demerit points, came during the heated incident involving Sunrisers batter Abhishek Sharma. It was his third Level 1 offence this season, taking his tally to five demerit points, the threshold for a one-match suspension.

“Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct… This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points,” the stated.

The LSG spinner had previously been penalised for similar breaches against the Punjab Kings (April 1) and Mumbai Indians (April 4). Having now crossed the demerit point limit, Digvesh will miss ’s next match against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025, in Ahmedabad.

The IPL clarified that, as per rules, “For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”

Abhishek Sharma was also fined, received his first demerit point of the season

While Digvesh bore the brunt of multiple violations, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma was also found guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct in the same match. The all-rounder has been fined 25% of his match fee for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.6.

The league confirmed that this was Abhishek’s first offence of the season, and it resulted in the addition of one demerit point to his record.

“Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees… This was his first Level 1 offence under Article 2.6 this season and hence, he has accumulated One Demerit Point,” the IPL said.

Both penalties stem from the verbal spat that broke out after Abhishek’s dismissal, with Digvesh’s exaggerated send-off triggering a heated exchange. Umpires had to step in to defuse the situation. While during the post-match, the duo solved the issue, they will have to face the consequences now.
