On Tuesday, May 20, Dalli Govind Reddy was chosen as the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation’s (GVMC) deputy mayor.

Following a day’s delay, a special meeting held in the GVMC Council Hall resulted in the election of the JSP candidate as Deputy Mayor.

It was intended that the election exercise would be finished on Monday. However, the quorum for the election was insufficient since certain TDP corporators who were running for the position did not attend the previous council meeting.

The council meeting was then rescheduled for a later date by Mayur Ashok, the Joint Collector and Election Presiding Officer.

When JSP candidate Dalli Govind Reddy was suggested by west constituency MLA PGVR Naidu (Ganababu) as the deputy mayor, north constituency MLA P. Vishnu Raju endorsed the idea. The Election Presiding Officer declared Govind Reddy the Deputy Mayor after 59 council members voted in his favor.

The newly elected Deputy Mayor received congratulations from MLAs and ex-officio members.

The alliance high command suggested a JSP candidate for deputy mayor after TDP candidate Peela Srinivasa Rao was given the mayorship.
