For local train travel, the railway administration is thinking of introducing a restricted entrance system like to that of the metro. A list of the 12 stations on the Western Railway that will be the sites of the pilot project has been sent to the Railway Board. Senior railway officials said the list includes nine stations in the Gujarat division, including Bandra Terminus, Borivali, and Andheri. The local rail system, which has been in operation for more than 150 years, needs to be updated to meet contemporary demands due to the steadily rising number of people utilizing it. It has been decided to create a metro-like system at stations after the successful installation of air-conditioned (AC) locals.

A list of possible stations from different railway zones throughout the nation was sought by the Railway Board.

Similar to the metro system, this concept would require users to reach platforms via defined routes that involve ticket and security checks.

Advantages of restricted access:

There will be less turmoil if admission is simplified via approved ways.
There will be stricter ticket and security inspections.
Overcrowding will be lessened.
It is possible to better regulate fare evasion.
Like with metro systems, travel will be more organized and comfortable.
