Crystal Palace are reportedly in talks to sign a potential replacement for on-loan left-back Ben Chilwell.

After falling out of favour under Enzo Maresca at ChelseaChilwell decided to join the Eagles on loan in the January transfer window in search of regular first-team football.

The 28-year-old England international was brought in by Palace boss Oliver Glassner to provide competition for Tyrick Mitchell in the left wing-back position.

However, Chilwell started just two of his 11 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles and was an unused substitute in the club’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

According to The SunChilwell is not expected to remain at Crystal Palace and will therefore return to parent club Chelsea who will make a decision over his future.

Palace eye Reinildo as Chilwell replacement

The report adds that Palace are now in talks to sign Atletico Madrid left-back and Mozambique international Reinildo sent.

The 31-year-old is set to become a free agent when his contract with the La Liga giants expires at the end of June, and this has alerted a number of Premier League clubs.

Manchester United and Barcelona were said to have previously held an interest in Reinildo, who joined Atletico from Lille for around €3m in January 2022 less than a year after winning the Ligue 1 title.

Palace now appear to have stepped up their interest in Reinildo, but they could face competition from both Everton and Fulhamwho are also ‘fans’ of the defender.

History could be made if Palace sign Reinildo

Should Palace win the race for Reinildo’s signature, he would become the first player from Mozambique to compete in the Premier League.

A total of 126 nationalities have represented in the Premier League’s 33-year history, with that figure increasing in January following the arrival of Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir khusanov at Man City.

Reinildo has earned 49 international caps for Mozambique and has also played 102 times at club level for Atletico, including 29 appearances in the 2024-25 season.
