Toyota has updated the Fortuner in India with 48-volt mild hybrid tech. They are calling it the neodrive which is the nomenclature they use with their other mild-hybrid cars. Price starts from Rs 44.72 lakh (ex-showroom) and Toyota has also given this new version some new added features.
Currently, this mild-hybrid variation is only available with two variants, the regular 2.8L 4×4 diesel automatic which is priced from Rs 44.72 lakh (ex-showroom) and also the Legender 2.8L 4×4 diesel automatic. This makes them nearly 2 lakh more expensive than their non-mild-hybrid variants.
The engine remains the same 2.8L diesel which produces 204 bhp and 500 Nm of torque but the addition of the mild hybrid system adds in a 48-volt system which includes an integrated starter motor and a lithium ion battery. What this will help in is smoother operation of the auto start-stop system and Toyota says that it will also aid in better low end grunt and less noise.
In addition to the mild-hybrid tech, the neodrive versions will also come with a 360-degree camera and terrain modes which can be operated using a dial. This should make it more capable off-road. For those who still want the most expensive of the Fortuner’s can look at the GR-S which is still priced at a hefty 51.09 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect Toyota to roll out this mild-hybrid tech in other variants as well soon and eventually make it standard across the range.
