will be closing one of its stores in just a matter of days. Next Saturday, June 21, Iceland will be closing for good the doors of its store in a popular seaside town in . The frozen food retailer has confirmed it will be the College Square branch in Margate after serving local customers for over a decade.

Although the exact reason for the closure has not been confirmed by Iceland, it has said that the staff will be offered other jobs within the business. The supermarket has also confirmed it will soon be closing its Inverness city centre branch at the Rose Street Retail Park in the Scottish Highlands next month, on July 12.

A spokesperson from Iceland, said: "We can confirm our Margate Iceland store will close.

"Our store colleagues have entered into a consultation process and have been offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible."

Many local shoppers have not taken the news well. One person wrote on Facebook: "Omg there's nothing left!! Everything in Margate is closing."

Sandi Powell also wrote: "Terrible news...middle of the shopping area..just across from Morrisons...it was a busy shop.....locals will miss it."

Another local said: "Oh no this is such a shame, I love shopping in Iceland."

Marie-Louise O'Connor also commented: "Such a shame I remember when it opened. Perfect for elderly who will go to Morrisons then to Iceland. It's just ridiculous."

Iceland has already closed several branches this year including that on Shenley Road, Borehamwood, Alphington Road Retail Park, Exeter and the Welling branch in London.

Earlier in 2025, Iceland also closed the doors of its store Derby Shopping Centre though it relocated it to a new nearby site on London Road.

This is part of the chain's wider reshaping of its store portfolio. It has opened a new store at Victoria Chambers on London Road in Derby and it announced earlier in the year that it will be opening 20 new Iceland and Food Warehouse stores by the end of April.
