The long-awaited high-speed rail link connecting Chennai, Bengaluru, and Mysuru has entered a critical phase of development, according to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). Once complete, the bullet train will cut travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from over six hours to just 2 hours and 25 minutestransforming intercity movement for tech professionals, business travelers, and daily commuters.


Project Overview: A 435 km High-Speed Rail Corridor

The proposed corridor will span 435 kmallowing trains to run at speeds of up to 350 kmphmaking it one of the fastest terrestrial travel options in India. It will:

  • Pass through Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh
  • Include nine major stationssuch as:
    • Mysuru
    • Poonamallee
    • Arakkonam
    • Chittoor
    • Bangarapet
    • Channapatna
    • Mandya

This dedicated corridor will enhance regional connectivity and serve as a critical tech and industry enabler in South India.


Current Status: Surveys and DPR Underway

The NHSRCL has awarded contracts for:

  • General Alignment Drawings
  • Land surveys and acquisition talks
  • Utility mapping (overhead and underground)
  • Power sourcing for future substations

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is in the works, which will finalise:

  • Station locations
  • Ridership projections
  • Fare structures
  • Environmental and social impact
