Monsoon 2025 has already hit most parts of India. Now, the southwest monsoon is gaining momentum across the country, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is forecasting major weather changes in the next few days. The monsoon is now expected to cover additional regions across several states in North India.
The IMD has predicted the monsoon in Chhattisgarh, and Odisha within the next two days. West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar are expected to witness the onset of monsoon rains between June 17 and 18.
Here’s a state-wise update on the monsoon situation as of June 15:

Delhi & NCR: Rain expected ahead

Delhi & NCR is battling with severe heatwaves and soaring heat. But the region experienced light rainfall with thunderstorms on Sunday morning.
Temperatures were earlier soaring beyond 45°C and significantly cooled. The IMD has predicted continued rainfall throughout the week from June 16–22. An orange alert is in effect for June 15, with thunderstorms and wind speeds touching 50–60 kmph expected in the evening and night.
Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana: Rain Likely Soon

Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana are likely to get rain soon, after experiencing severe heatwaves. But isolated showers and partly cloudy skies are expected later this week. Relief is likely to reach eastern UP first, followed by western parts.

Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand: Mixed Conditions

The Western Himalayan Region is experiencing heat in lower altitudes, while higher regions remain cooler. Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh around June 17–18.
Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal: Monsoon to come soon

The IMD forecasts the arrival of monsoon rains over Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal by June 17–18. As of now, Bihar and Jharkhand are experiencing hot and humid nights. This impending rain is expected to break the humidity and bring significant cooling.
Northeast India: Humid conditions prevail

States like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are dealing with high night temperatures and muggy conditions. While pre-monsoon showers have been sporadic, a more organized monsoon pattern is expected to bring consistent rain to the region starting late next week.

Southern Peninsula: Active monsoon underway

Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are already experiencing an active monsoon phase. The southern interior is expected to benefit from the moisture-laden winds travelling northward.

Travellers planning trips to the western coast are advised to check weather updates and take a decision accordingly.
