Banking customers across India should note that Saturday, July 12, will be a non-working day for physical bank branches, as it falls on the second Saturday of the month. In accordance with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, in addition to every Sunday.

This weekend closure is part of the standard schedule outlined by the RBI’s bank holiday calendar, which is applicable nationwide. On second and fourth Saturdays, all public and private sector banks, cooperative banks, and regional rural banks do not operate their physical branches. However, first, third, and fifth Saturdays are treated as regular working days.

Digital Banking Services Remain Unaffected

Despite the closure of bank counters on designated holidays, digital banking channels continue to operate as usual. Customers can access net banking, mobile apps, and ATM services without disruption. Fund transfers, bill payments, and other online facilities remain functional, ensuring essential financial transactions are not hindered by branch closures.

While branch services pause, the Reserve Bank categorises bank holidays under three heads — Negotiable Instruments Act holidays, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays, and those related to the annual closing of accounts. The majority of these closures, including weekend holidays, fall under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Remaining Bank Holidays In July

Beyond the recurring weekend shutdowns, bank holidays may vary across states depending on local festivals, regional observances, and other state-specific events. For instance, banks in Meghalaya will observe a holiday on July 14 for Beh Deinkham. Following that, state-wise closures are also scheduled for July 16, 17, 19, and 20.

The next uniform bank closure after July 12 will occur on Sunday, July 13. Customers are advised to plan branch visits and banking needs accordingly, especially in states expecting multiple closures in the upcoming week.
