New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has opened an e-filing window for taxpayers on its portal, so that they will be able to file their income tax return form ITR-2. With this step, taxpayers will be able to file their returns for the financial year 2024-25 using the already filled data through online utility. Significantly, users find this method more convenient than offline Excel utility. In a post on X, the Income Tax Department said, “Please note taxpayers! ITR-2 Income Tax Return Form is now capable of filing online with already filled data on the e-filing portal.” How to get ITR-2 form? ITR-2 form is now available in the Dropdown Manu to choose an ITR form on the Income Tax E-Filing portal. To file ITR-2 online, log on to the portal and go to the filing option. Earlier, the Income Tax Department unveiled Excel-based utilities for ITR-2 and ITR-3. Under this facility, users had to download the form and fill them offline and then upload them on the portal and file their returns. ITR-2 applies to those individuals and Hindu undivided families (HUF) who: Earn income from salary or pension, earning more than one house property, earning capital benefits, earning income from other sources, receiving income from other sources and some keynatals in other sources. Reason, long-term capital gains should be reported separately for the period of July 23, 2024. The bondeled bonds or debentures should be clearly declared. The buyback income received on October 1, 2024 or after the buyback income should be shown under “income from other sources” and as “zero” idea in the capital gains schedule and in the schedule as “zero” ideas. Earlier this limit was Rs 50 lakhs. It is worth noting that ITR-2 does not include income from commercial or professional activities. This year major changes have been made in online ITR-2. These changes have been made due to changes in the Capital Benefit Tax System for FY 2024-25. Who can use the ITR-2 form? If the taxpayer wants to include the income of another person, such as a spouse or a minor child, in his income, they can also use ITR-2 form. However, it should be used only when all the conditions of filing ITR-2 are fulfilled. This year the last date for filing ITR for taxpayers has been extended which do not require audit. Taxpayers can now file their returns by September 15, 2025. More than 1.41 crore returns have been filed by July 18, 2025, and the Income Tax Department has also processed over 1.12 crore verified returns.
