What happens when nostalgia meets next-gen tech? The internet gets a remix it didn’t know it needed. A recent AI-generated rendition of Saiyaara — the heartbreak anthem from Mohit Suri ’s latest blockbuster — has taken social media by storm. Recreated in the unmistakable voice of the late Kishore Kumar by musicians RJ Kisna and Anshuman Sharma, the track has struck a deep chord with fans of both old-school melody and modern-day digital wizardry.
The reel, which mashes Kishore da ’s voice onto the contemporary ballad, is set against visuals from the 1981 Amitabh Bachchan-Parveen Babi starrer Kaalia. Posted with the caption “If Saiyaara was a Kishore da song!”, the video instantly went viral. Viewers flooded the comments section with praise, calling the version “more soulful than the original” and “too good to be true.” One fan wrote, “This is more soothing… loving this version,” while another cheekily added, “Bro, original se 1000000000% better hai.”
The original Saiyaara is no underdog. Sung by indie sensation Faheem Abdullah and written by Irshad Kamil, it has already become a cultural phenomenon. The AI cover, though unofficial, has re-energized the song’s presence in a whole new demographic — those who grew up on the golden era of Hindi music. Comments poured in demanding full versions, Spotify releases, and even AI covers featuring Mohammad Rafi. “It’s like eating chicken biryani on a plastic plate,” one user said, “The voice is too grand for the song.” Another fan quipped, “Using AI the right way — this is magic.”
While the AI cover has charmed the internet, it also raises questions around the ethics of digitally recreating voices of legends no longer with us. Is it homage or overreach? For now, fans are happy to live in this moment of retro-meets-reel magic. As one Instagram user summed it up: “Ye sunke londe royenge.” Judging by the comments, they already are.
