WBJEE 2025 Results Updates: Thousands of candidates waiting for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2025 results are still in uncertainty, as legal issues related to the OBC reservation policy caused an indefinite delay in the declaration of results.

What Caused the Delay?

As per WBJEE Board Chairperson Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee, the board was set to announce the results on June 5, 2025. However, a pending court case on the revised OBC list in West Bengal prevented them.

She explained that the WBJEE Board does not have authority over reservation-related matters and is subject to state government instructions, as stated in the 2014 WBJEE Gazette Notification.

"Shall have the power to resolve any examination related issue and also have the power to issue directions to the Board which the Board shall comply to explain the WBJEE board has no power regarding the OBC issue," Banerjee said, as reported by news agency PTI.

Court Stay on OBC Reservation

The Calcutta High Court had granted a stay order against the revised OBC list, challenging the inclusion of 76 new castes without a proper survey. The stay stands until July 31, 2025.

As merit ranks category-wise are part of WBJEE result preparation, the board decided to hold the results back until a legal verdict.

Student Concerns Mount Over Delay

Students, who were frustrated with the delay, wrote to the WBJEE Board with letters expressing stress and anxiety caused by the lack of updates.

Even when reaching out by both the WBJEEB and the education department, students asserted that they did not get any clear response, according to the PTI reports.

Government's Stand on the Issue

Earlier, Bratya Basu, the Education Minister, assured that the state is prepared to release the WBJEE 2025 results. However, he reiterated that the government is proceeding cautiously due to the legal proceedings surrounding the OBC reservation issue.
