IT IS ladies' day at Beverley this afternoon and TRIGGERMAN (nap) would be an appropriate winner for trainer Julie Camacho in the Jill Willows Handicap (4.15).
The four-year-old has yet to strike gold in five starts so far this term but came within a short head of victory over this extended seven-furlong trip last time.
He looked set to oblige but idled a bit right at the finish in a first-time visor – a move which cost him as he was grabbed on the line.
Camacho – who boasts a fine strike rate at the track – retains the headgear in this event, and connections should be wiser this time.
Half-an-hour earlier at the picturesque East Yorkshire course, DUMFRIES (nb) can restore his tarnished reputation by showing good speed and triumphing in the Porsche 911 Handicap (3.45).
Trained by another female trainer with a liking for Beverley in Ruth Carr, the five-year-old bagged a second victory of the campaign over course and distance in June.
And the gelded son of Cityscape has remained in form since.
First he was a close-up third behind Good Karma at Thirsk last month.
And on the first day of this month, he performed well when finishing fourth - less than a length off the winner Unthinkable - in a handicap at Musselburgh, although he was subsequently disqualified after claiming rider William Pyle weighed in light.
However, he remains respected from this sort of mark and is also reunited with regular pilot James Sullivan.
