In a heartbreaking incident in Assam's Dima Hasao district, three students from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar drowned in a waterfall. Officials reported this unfortunate event on Sunday.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday afternoon at the Bulchol (Hamunthajao) waterfall, located in the Bolshom Bagan area of Harangajao.

A senior official from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) stated that the accident took place when a group of NIT students visited the picturesque waterfall for a recreational outing.

Upon receiving the news, our team promptly arrived at the scene to initiate a rescue operation. The deceased have been identified as Souhard Rai (20) and Sarvavartika Singh (20) from Uttar Pradesh, and Radhika (19) from Bihar.

Officials noted that rescue efforts faced challenges due to poor mobile connectivity and the difficult terrain, which hindered communication and coordination. They mentioned that a medical team was on standby to handle any emergencies.

Although the three students were retrieved from the water, medical personnel pronounced them dead at the scene. Authorities expressed their condolences regarding this incident and urged the public to exercise caution when visiting waterfalls and other tourist attractions.
