The United States of America (USA) is gearing up to compete in the ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup, with their first match set for January 15 against India U19. What’s particularly interesting is that the USA squad boasts more players of Indian descent than those who are actually based in the USA.

Utkarsh Srivastava will be at the helm as the team captain, and all 14 of his teammates share Indian roots. This is quite unusual, as typically you’d see one or two players from different backgrounds representing a nation. But in this case, the entire USA U19 squad is of Indian origin.

The USA U19 team has been placed in Group B, where they’ll face off against Bangladesh U19, India U19, and New Zealand U19. India U19 holds the title of the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won the trophy five times and finishing as runners-up four times.

In the last U19 World Cup, Australia took home the trophy after defeating India in the final. This exciting tournament will take place in Namibia and Zimbabwe from January 15 to February 6, with the final match scheduled to be held in Harare.

The USA was the last team to qualify for the World Cup, triumphing over Canada, Bermuda, and Argentina in a double round-robin qualifier held in Rydal, Georgia.

They kicked things off with a solid 65-run victory against Canada, followed by convincing wins over Bermuda and Argentina.

By the halfway point of the competition, the USA was firmly in control.

In the second leg, they secured 10 points by defeating Bermuda and Argentina once more, which was enough to clinch their spot in the World Cup. Top-order batter Amrinder Singh Gill shone brightly, scoring 199 runs across three innings, while the spin-bowling duo of Ansh Rai and Sahir Bhatia each took seven wickets.

The top 10 teams from the 2024 U19 World Cup in South Africa have automatically qualified for the 2026 edition, along with the Full Member hosts, Zimbabwe.
