Under the promotion of sports facilities in Uttar Pradesh Budget 2026-27, it has been announced to build sports colleges in 10 divisions including Agra. 50 hectares of land has been identified in Etmadpur. With this, players will get both modern training and education facilities.

Agra. With the aim of making Uttar Pradesh 'number one' in the field of sports, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given a big gift to the youth. In Budget 2026-27, the government has prepared a clear roadmap to strengthen sports infrastructure and nurture grassroots talent. Under this scheme, new sports colleges will be built in 10 divisions of the state including Agra. For this, the government has fixed a budget of Rs 80 crore. With this, players in and around Agra will not have to depend on other states for modern training.

Agra Sports College Project: 50 hectares of land in Etmadpur and initial budget of Rs 8 crores

Under the 'One Division-One Sports College' policy, the process of building a sports college in Agra has been expedited. About 50 hectares of land has been identified in Etmadpur area. After the completion of administrative investigation, the proposal will be sent to the government. An initial provision of about Rs 8 crore has been made for this college in the budget. In this proposed college, international level sports grounds, administrative buildings, hostels and educational facilities will be developed in a single campus. Its objective is to provide a balanced environment of studies with sports to the players, so that their overall development can take place.

Center of Excellence Sports College: Plan to prepare future Olympians

The government wants to develop this institute not just as a college but as a 'Centre of Excellence'. The aim is to strengthen India's medal chances in major international events like the 2030 Commonwealth Games and 2036 Olympics. This sports college of Agra will be developed as a nursery to provide high level training to future players.

Sports Experts Reaction: Sports experts welcomed the decision

Hemlata Kala (former cricketer and selection committee chairman)

He said that this decision of the Uttar Pradesh government is historic. There is no dearth of talent in Agra, but there was a need for high level facilities. With the construction of a sports college, the youth here, especially the daughters, will be able to get better training near home. New star players will emerge from this.

Sanjay Gautam (Vice President, Uttar Pradesh Hockey Association)

According to him, giving priority to sports is a big positive step. With the opening of sports colleges at the divisional level, rural talents will also get a platform. This initiative will play an important role in preparing future Olympians.

Kamal Chaudhary (President, Agra Hockey Association)

He said that the dream of a sports college in Agra now seems to be coming true. By combining studies and sports, parents will also be inspired to make their children a career in sports. This step will prove to be very important for the sports world of Agra.
