Udupi: Manipal, Karkala, and Hebri taluks of the district received good rainfall on Saturday evening.

Thundershowers lashed Karkala town, Ajekaru, Shirlalu, Kervashe, Mala, Noorabettu, and Bajagoli. In Hebri taluk, areas including Muniyalu, Andaru, Mudradi, and Kabbinale also witnessed rain.

The weather had been cloudy since morning, and the rain started by evening. Due to the sudden downpour, areca nuts spread out in courtyards for drying in several villages got drenched, causing distress to farmers.

In Manipal, it rained for more than half an hour during the early hours of Sunday.

Good rain in Belthangady: Tree falls on power line, causing damage

Belthangady: Various parts of Belthangady taluk received heavy rain accompanied by wind and thunder on Saturday evening. On the Nidley-Kalenja road, a tree fell onto a power line, damaging an electric tower.

The tree fell on a private power line, disrupting traffic for some time. Later, the Sri Dharmasthala Shaurya Disaster Management team assisted in clearing the tree.

Elsewhere in the taluk, Ujire, Dharmasthala, Aladangady, Nidigal, Shishila, Kokkada, and Arasinamakki received good rainfall. Naravi area of the taluk had also witnessed good rain on March 13.
