Constipation is a common problem these days. Constipation can be uncomfortable and worrying. If you are having fewer bowel movements than usual, it takes a long time to pass stools or the stools are hard, you may be constipated. Almost everyone experiences constipation at some point in their lives, and older people are more likely to experience this condition than younger people. But the good news is that most of the time constipation is not serious and is treatable.
People face constipation problem due to change in their diet. People suffering from constipation have trouble in defecation. In such a situation, other problems like high blood pressure, arthritis can also occur. To get rid of this problem, Ayurveda's Dr. M Rajyalakshmi has suggested adopting easy home remedies. What is the connection between diabetes and constipation
There may be a link between diabetes and constipation. Diabetes can cause constipation directly or indirectly. Some laxatives may be a suitable treatment, but others may cause an increase in blood sugar. Diabetes can cause persistently high blood sugar levels, which can cause nerve damage that can result in constipation. Constipation symptoms can be uncomfortable.
Constipation symptoms
Being constipated means that your bowel movements are hard or less frequent than normal. If you have fewer than three bowel movements a week, you may be constipated. The normal time between bowel movements varies from person to person. Some people have up to three bowel movements a day. While others have just a few bowel movements a week. But going more than 3 days without one is usually too long. After 3 days, your stools become harder and more difficult to pass.

A feeling of being blocked or not completely empty.

What causes constipation?

Many common medical conditions in the elderly, as well as medications, can cause constipation.

Medical Conditions
Disorders that affect the muscles or nerves used for normal bowel movements — for example, stroke, Parkinson's disease, or spinal cord injury — can cause constipation.
Not eating enough fiber. Not drinking enough water (dehydration). Not getting enough exercise. Changes in your regular routine, such as traveling, eating meals, or sleeping at different times can cause constipation.
Conditions that affect hormones or metabolism, such as diabetes, can also cause constipation.
Other medical conditions that can cause constipation include tumors or other obstructions, pelvic floor disorders, and gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome.
Additionally, people with diseases such as Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia that affect their diet and daily habits may be more likely to experience constipation.

Causes of Constipation
Constipation is not caused only by changes in diet, but there are many other reasons for it:

sedentary lifestyle,

irregular food intake,

lack of fiber in the diet,

Lack of water in the body (less than 8 glasses per day)

High intake of coffee and tea (more than four cups a day)

alcohol consumption and smoking,

Anxiety and stress.

Ways to deal with constipation
Dr. Rajyalakshmi gives home remedies to get rid of constipation:

  1. Mix 2 teaspoons of ghee in 100 ml lukewarm milk and drink it before going to bed.
  2. Consume 2 teaspoons of castor oil daily on an empty stomach until constipation is cured.
  3. Mix 1/2 teaspoon fennel in 100 ml lukewarm water and consume it twice a day, 1 hour before or after meals.
  4. Mix 1-2 teaspoons (5 to 10 grams) of psyllium powder with lukewarm water and consume it before going to bed.
  5. Before going to bed, drink 1 teaspoon (5 grams) of Triphala powder mixed in 100 ml of lukewarm water.
  6. Soak 2-4 figs in a glass of water for 4 hours and then consume it.
  7. Soak 20 raisins in a glass of water for 12 hours and then consume it with the water. (Diabetic patients should not consume it)
    Make changes in your lifestyle:

Take a walk for 30-45 minutes every morning.

After waking up, drink 2 glasses (1 litre) of lukewarm water on an empty stomach.

Include seasonal, fibre-rich and green vegetables and fruits in your diet.

Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.

Do not drink water while eating, drink a sip if needed.

Drink a glass of lukewarm water 30 minutes after every meal.

Walk at least 100 steps immediately after every meal.

After eating, do Vajrasana for 5-10 minutes.

Avoid eating fried foods, sweets, and soda drinks.

Drive away stress and anxiety by doing meditation and pranayam.

So, if you notice any such symptoms in yourself, practice these easy home remedies and make changes in your lifestyle. Instead of consuming pills, adopt these home remedies which will be less harmful
