Cheese products are being over fears of possible contamination with pathogenic bacteria.

JOD Food Products issued a recall notice for 18 items due to "the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes".

Eating contaminated food can cause serious illness. Symptoms include a high temperature, aches and pains, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

women, older people and those with weakened immune systems - such as patients with , , kidney disease or taking steroid tablets - are at higher risk of severe problems.

A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency urged people who have bought the cheese products not to eat them and to return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

It added: "Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

"However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

"Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one-month-old and people with weakened immune systems."
