Hummus is a delicious snack, but it often spoils very quickly if not eaten withiin a few days.
Hummus typically lasts for a week in the fridge after it's opened, while homemade hummus stays fresh for between three to four days.
The difference could be down to products having preservatives in it that can extend their shelf life.
However, there is a simple which can keep hummus for longer, but taste just as good as it was when it was opened.
A home hacks influencer has shared a fool-proof way for keeping hummus fresh for months after you've bought it. Casey Major Bunce, also known as Major Mum Hacks on revealed that all you need to do is freeze it.
In a recent video, she said: "I love hummus but I hate food waste, and it goes off super quick, but did you know you can freeze it, and it tastes exactly the same."
The influencer described her "obsession" with hummus, but that a common problem she faces is that it tastes "funky" after being open and exposed to the elements after a few days.
Since freezing it, she described it as remaining "completely fresh" and "it tastes no different after it thaws out".
However, to make sure the hummus keeps its freshness, you have to make sure it's sealed in an airtight container.
Casey explained in the caption: "As soon as you open it take what you want out for the next day and then just literally freeze the rest in ice cube trays or silicone molds. Then you want to transfer them to an airtight container and they will last four months in the freezer.
"Just get them out the night before you want some and leave them to thaw overnight in the fridge."
However, a problem you may encounter if the hummus isn't frozen properly, is dryness.
advised that hummus, due to its high chickpea content, can dry out when kept in the freezer.
Its experts recommend drizzling on top of the hummus and securing the lid tightly.
This extra moisture will ensure it comes out tasting just as good as when you froze it.
