A man was rushed to hospital after being shot in the buttock. Police were called to Fountains Road, Walton, just after 9pm to reports a man had been shot.
The victim made his own way to the hospital and had left the scene by the time the officers arrived. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Police believe a passenger in the rear of a dark car pulled up beside the victim and shot them. Detectives are now appealing for witnesses.
Merseyside Police said: "When officers arrived, the victim had left the scene in a car, and he self-presented at the hospital a short time later. The victim had been shot in the buttock, and his injury is not life-threatening."
"It is believed the victim was on Fountains Road when a dark car pulled up alongside him. A passenger in the rear of the car opened the door and fired a gun at the victim."
