Ajay's Drishyam franchise Mohanlal's name was inspired by the Malayalam crime thriller. The first scene (in Hindi) was released in 2015. Given the success of the film, Ajay returned to the sequel after seven years.

However, Pinkvilla's source said that before going to the third installment of Drishyam, Ajay will complete the shooting of Dhamaal 4, De De Pyaar De 2 and Ranger. Currently, he is shooting for DDPD 2, with Rakul Preet Singh, Tabu and R Madhavan. The film will begin by Rakul telling his parents about Ajay Devgan. In the film, Madhavan will allegedly play the role of Rakul's father.
