Lake Mead, the largest man-made lake in the US, was created by the building of the Hoover Dam. The reservoir is 640 square kilometres when full, stretching 180 kilometres across the Mojave Desert.

Not only is it an historical site home to the Lost City, but tourists can also take a cruise through the lake on The Desert Princess.

Built in 1991, the boat has plenty of room to move around and get comfortable as well as ample outdoor deck space to take photographs and videos and a smooth ride.

On board is the Paddle Wheel Grill, serving hamburgers, hot dogs, hot and cold sandwiches, and other refreshments, with a full bar.

Ninety-minute cruises of 275 people are narrated in a variety of languages to include educational information about Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam, and the Desert Princess boat.

Jagged mountain ranges surround the lake, offering a scenic backdrop for the cruise, especially at sunset. Two mountain ranges are within view: the River Mountains oriented northwest to southeast. and the Muddy Mountains oriented west to northeast.

Lake Mead provides many types of recreation to locals and visitors, including boating, fishing, swimming, sunbathing, and water skiing.

Several small to medium-sized islands occur in the lake area depending on the water level, the largest of which is Oberlink Island. The area has many coves with rocky cliffs and sandy beaches.

Many archaeological sites were submerged by the creation of Lake Mead, including the most representative, which is referred to as the "Lost City". Researchers found walls, tools, weapons, food and even skeletal remains at the site.

The area was first inhabited in 300 A.D, around 1,700 years ago.

The cruise is open five days a week (Monday to Friday) for 10 months out of the year, being closed in December and January.
