subscribers have expressed their dismay as a series dubbed 'Australia's Yellowstone' was axed after just one season.

Despite receiving positive reviews and generating online buzz, Netflix confirmed that Territory would not be returning for a second season. The show, described as a cross between Succession and Yellowstone, was set against the rugged backdrop of the Australian outback.

The plot unfolds at the world's largest cattle station, a property held by the Lawson family for generations. However, the unexpected death of the family heir throws the future of the station into uncertainty.

With billions on the line, everyone from rival ranchers to local mobsters are determined to get a piece of the property by any means necessary.

Filmed across the Northern Territory and South Australia, the show was directed by Greg McLean, known for crafting Aussie horror films such as Wolf Creek and Rogue.

Territory boasted a star-studded cast including Australian actress Anna Torv, known for her role in the sci-fi series Fringe, Michael Dorman from Wonderland, and Robert Taylor, who previously starred in another neo-Western, Longmire.

The drama has been praised by critics, boasting an impressive 86% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Anthony Morris from ScreenHub praised: "The sense that there's a surprise around every corner helps Territory come across as more than just another scheming family saga."

Meanwhile, Michael Clark of the Epoch Times felt the series concluded well: "If the show has truly ended, I'm walking away satisfied. Closure is provided, although some could interpret the ending as a cliffhanger. Either way, a 2nd season could successfully continue the saga if handled with the same level of care and forethought."

Que Min Luu, Netflix's director of content for Australia and New Zealand, issued a statement confirming the show's cancellation: "We are incredibly thankful to have had the chance to work with the wonderful cast and production team to bring Territory and the stunning Australian outback into the homes of millions around the world. Although we won't be continuing with another season, we eagerly anticipate working with all of them again in the future."

Many fans had praised the show on social media platform X, once known as Twitter, with one enthusiastically stating: "TERRITORY is on Netflix and it's a 10/10 series."

Upon news of the cancellation, many complained there'd be no second season. "It's truly a great show. I can't help but express my greatest disappointment," said one viewer. While another fumed: "Why on earth have you cancelled "Territory"? You show so much s*** yet cancel really good shows. What's the point in airing them in the first place."
