Renowned for its athletic heritage, Kanpur is seeing a notable growth in its sports facilities. Particularly in the northern section of the city, over 2,200 athletes are now practicing in a variety of sports, such as football, basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, cricket, table tennis, shooting, archery, golf, and more.

In 14 different sports, including cricket, swimming, squash, volleyball, handball, football, shooting, athletics, hockey, judo, table tennis, and badminton, more than 300 athletes are trained in Palika Stadium alone. More than 300 athletes from lower-income families have been able to participate at the state and national levels because of these training facilities.
With national-level contests in swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, basketball, and squash, as well as standardized training under NIS-certified trainers, Brijeshwar Swaroop Park has made a name for itself as a significant sports center. Young talent is still being developed at reputable cricket venues like Guru Gobind Singh Stadium and Kamala Club.
In order to host BCCI domestic series matches, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU) and Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) are building stadiums that meet international standards. The future stadium at CSJMU, which will accommodate 10,000 people, is being constructed for₹24 crore as part of a₹200 crore sports development budget. When finished, it will join Green Park and Kamala Club as Kanpur’s third location for BCCI domestic matches. The stadium will include contemporary amenities including media boxes, pavilions, seven center wickets composed of red dirt, and a surface drainage system.
Nevertheless, a number of classic athletic venues, including Railway Ground, Palika Stadium, and Brijeshwar Swaroop Park, are being neglected in spite of these developments.
