Champions Trophy: Australia's Ben Dwarshuis claims his second successive three-fer
28 Feb 2025

Australia restricted Afghanistan to 273/10 in their last league game of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Lahore.

Despite a good start from Afghanistan's top order, they failed to convert their initial momentum into big scores.

The middle-order batsmen made crucial contributions but couldn't accelerate in the latter stages due to Australia's disciplined pace attack.

Left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis was brilliant in particular, claiming three wickets toward the end.

Spell

Australia's bowlers did their job well, with tight fielding and important wickets in the middle overs.

Dwarshuis, who went wicketless with his first spell, showcased his brilliance in the final five overs.

The dangerous Rashid Khan (16) was his first victim as the left-arm pacer opened his account in the 46th over.

Half-centurion Azmatullah Omarzai (67) and Noor Ahmad (6) fell to him in the final over.

Adam Zampa and Spencer Johnson supported Dwarshuis with two wickets apiece.

Stats

Dwarshuis finished with 3/47 across nine overs.

He has made a statement in the absence of Australia's pace trio - Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood.

Dwarshuis, playing only his fourth ODI, now has eight wickets at 22.25.

He made his ODI debut in September last year, against England in Nottingham.

The pacer, who has raced to 41 List A wickets, claimed his second successive three-fer.
