Gogglebox is gracing our screens once again on Channel 4, and the Rota sisters, Amira and Amani, are set to dish out their thoughts on the latest telly hits. Amira made her Gogglebox debut in 2017, initially joined by her mate Iqra, but it wasn't until 2018 that her sister Amani hopped on board.

Contrary to what many viewers might assume, Amira, who first appeared with Iqra, is actually the younger of the two by two years. As of March 2024, Amira was 26 and Amani was 28.

Amira's most recent job was managing a Smyth's Toys store, while Amani is in customer service.

The duo, famous for their sofa critiques, still bunk with their folks in London, but they're part of a bigger family with three more siblings who prefer to steer clear of the limelight and haven't popped up on the show.

Amira opened up on how she landed the Gogglebox spot during her first day at university after being scouted by casting agents at a shopping centre.

Her pal Iqra shared the screen for a short while, but when she bowed out, the producers were keen to get Amani in. Chatting with Heat World, Amira confessed that convincing Amani was no walk in the park.

Amani chimed in, admitting: "My personality is not very out there. I didn't have the confidence to do it to begin with, but then I got out of my comfort zone and said yes."

Amira gushed about the prospect of their dad joining the show, saying he'd be "hilarious" but noted: "He wouldn't be up for it, because he's a shy guy, but some of the comments he makes, I'm like, 'They would love you'."

The sisters confessed they do watch the show back but tend to skip their own parts as they find them "too cringe". Away from the cameras, they have nothing but praise for fellow Goggleboxers like the Plummer brothers – Tristan, Twaine, and Tremaine – and siblings Pete and Sophie Sandiford.

They were awestruck when they met Gogglebox icons Mary Killen and Giles Wood, who bombarded them with questions at a festive Gogglebox gathering. The duo also spilled the beans on other TV dreams they harbour, even playfully musing about popping up on Love is Blind.

Amira joked: "We come from a Somali household, so [mum would] love to marry us off in an experiment like that.

She'd go, 'Well, you've got no more choices. Come on!'"

They revealed that being on the show has tightened their sibling bond, with hardly any arguments between them. With their contrasting schedules keeping them apart at home, their Gogglebox sessions become precious moments for a good old sibling catch-up.

Gogglebox airs on Channel 4 on Fridays at 9pm
