's "historic" meeting with former US President has come back into the spotlight after Prince William's ex-aide, Jason Knauf, revealed details of the day in a new interview.

The Obamas visited the UK back in 2016 when the second in line to the throne was just over 2.5 years old.

The American couple paid a visit to Kensington Palace in London, the former home of the Prince and Princess of Wales at the time.

George was snapped shaking hands with the American President in his dressing gown and pyjamas.

He was also seen gifted him a few years before.

According to Mr Knauf, the youngster was allowed to stay up past his bedtime for the "historic" meeting.

He told 60 Minutes Australia: "It was slightly before his bedtime. They [the Prince and Princess of Wales] were like, 'Well, it'd be nice to have this memory of him saying hello to this historic president.'"

He added: "Afterwards, we walked out into the courtyard at Kensington Palace and the Beast, the presidential limousine, is there, and George is looking at this thing like he has never seen anything like it.

"And that's when you could be a little bit more like, 'This is a weird job.' It's a really strange job to have."

George - born on July 22, 2013 - received several lavish gifts for his first birthday. One of those gifts was a handmade rocking horse by Barack and Michelle Obama.

The special toy featured the American presidential seal on the saddle and was reportedly made by Oklahoman Jackie Wilson of Wilson Rocking Horses.

According to , prices range from £1,500 ($2,000) for a well-turned bow rocker or glider to £6,000 ($8,000) or more for a highly customised horse.

Mr Obama also sent a polo mallet carved from an oak tree on the White House's South Lawn, as well as a handmade alpaca wool blanket.
