A Shropshire town that's has unveiled its latest plans to boost passenger capacity. Shrewsbury has set its sights on launching a second station to relieve pressure on the existing Shrewsbury Station and the town's highway network.

Shrewsbury Parkway station would see arrivals from Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway (WSMR), connecting the town to locations including Telford, Wolverhampton, Milton Keynes, and Euston. The £24million plans are part of the Shrewsbury Moves campaign, described as a "10-year vision and plan to transform movement and public space across the town", as per the outlet. It could also see improvements to the town's grand, Victorian, Grade II listed main station, the .

The plans haven't yet been given the go-ahead, and the council is yet to confirm when it could be completed.

Shropshire Council says it is currently investigating the feasibility and private-financing options for the new station.

Ian Nellins, Shropshire Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for transport, said: "We're very excited to see further progress for Shrewsbury Moves by working with SLC and WSMR.

"WSMR's plans for new services from Shropshire to London offer a lifeline in connectivity to our communities and ensure that as the population of Shropshire increases, we have the infrastructure to support it.

"A parkway station is part of our longer term plans and would reduce the pressure on Shrewsbury's station and help cut traffic within the town centre," he added.

In November Shrewsbury was hailed by for - which the newspaper named as the best high street in Britain.

The high street is well-known for its steep incline, as well as the rich mix of shops, boutiques, and cafés.

The strip is thought to have the longest uninterrupted row of independent shops in the UK, meaning there's likely to be something for everyone.

The architecture on display also reflects the street's rich history, with Tudor and Georgian buildings lining the cobblestone road.

It's also a great starting point for visiting some of the town's go-to tourist spots, like The Quarry Park and Shrewsbury Abbey.
