The One Show's Alex Jones couldn't hold back the tears on Tuesday's programme (March 11) as she discussed Stacey Dooley's forthcoming book, Conversations with Remarkable Mothers, ahead of its release.

Stacey sat down on the iconic green sofa to chat about her latest work which delves into the world of various mothers and their unique experiences, showcasing her renowned empathetic approach and investigative prowess.

Highlighting an array of maternal experiences, the book kicks off with a heartfelt letter from Stacey herself to her young daughter Minnie, a moment that overwhelmed Alex.

"It is lovely, and there's the whole spectrum of motherhood from every angle, but, of course, it starts with a letter to Minnie. Oh my god, I can't even say it, but it's just so lovely," Alex confessed, visibly moved, receiving comfort from fellow presenter Clara Amfo.

Alex then pointed out the book's mix of emotions: "It's quite funny as well, actually, because you talk about finding out you were pregnant and, of course, it was in Selfridges.", reports Wales Online.

As the conversation unfolded, Stacey shared the reasons behind her choice to focus on motherhood and gave an insight into her writing journey.

"We were sort of flirting with the idea of what we wanted to talk about, and whether I had a third book in me. I did definitely want to do another book," Stacey remarked.

With passion evident, she continued, "It was sort of a no-brainer if you know what I mean, motherhood was at the forefront of my mind... I just quite fancied doing something surrounding motherhood."

She said: "It's such an oversaturated market, there's so many books telling you how to do it and I don't know how to do it, so I thought, 'Do you know what? I actually have no authority to kind of hand out any words of advice.'".

Stacey opted to speak to a diverse range of mothers instead, as she felt she lacked the expertise to offer words of wisdom. "My pregnancy, my birth, my journey has been relatively straightforward, and that's not representative so I wanted it to feel quite universal," she explained.

Stacey expressed her satisfaction with the final result, saying: "The mums were just total sweethearts... It's lovely, I'm delighted with it."
