Uttarakhand is set to host the Astro-Tourism and Dark Sky Conclave 2025 at Corbett, Ramnagar, from March 21 to 23, 2025. The event is being organized by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) in collaboration with Starscapes. The three-day event is part of the Nakshatra Sabha campaign, aiming to promote dark sky conservation and sustainable astro-tourism in India.
At the conclave, expect to see astronomers, astrophotographers, researchers, industry professionals, and night sky enthusiasts coming together to discuss strategies for preserving dark skies and expanding astro-tourism in Uttarakhand. If you are a dark sky enthusiast, or simply love stargazing, this event is a great opportunity to learn more from the subject experts.
A key highlight of the conclave is its various discussions, workshops and technical training sessions led by experts. The event will also focus on teaching the attendees the crucial aspects of night sky conservation, telescope operations, and astrophotography techniques. The event will also feature policy discussions on the development of astro-tourism in India, with experts sharing their perspectives on balancing tourism growth with environmental sustainability. So if you are curious to learn these things, start planning your trip to Ramnagar.
Additionally, attendees will receive practical training to enhance their skills in astronomical observation. The workshops will be designed for both beginners and experienced sky-watchers.

One of the main objectives of the conclave is to train and certify participants as Dark Sky Conservation Ambassadors. As an ambassador, one plays a vital role in raising awareness about light pollution, advocating for dark sky protection policies, and promoting responsible astro-tourism practices.
Uttarakhand is clearly one of India's top astro tourism destinations. This event will take Uttarakhand one step closer towards astro tourism as a sustainable industry. With its clear skies and natural landscapes, the state has the potential to become a hub for stargazing and celestial events.
Currently, India is home to only one International Dark Sky Reserve–Hanle Dark Sky Reserve in Ladakh, and one Dark Sky Park in Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra.
