One of the UK's best restaurants is preparing to close its doors after half a century of serving incredible dishes. Brilliant Restaurant in Southall, which has been living up to its name since 1975, will on April 7, 2025. The iconic eatery has received praise from celebrities and royalty alike, including , who named it as his favourite London restaurant.

Dipna Anand, Celebrity Chef and Co-owner of Brilliant Restaurant in Southall, said: "It may be the end of an era for Brilliant Southall, but after 50 years, the Brilliant brand has gained an iconic status in Indian dining, and we have to ensure that it is constantly evolving to both reflect the preferences of diners, and the food I love to eat, so there's something delicious for everyone." The restaurant has been featured on Channel 4's show, Gordon Ramsay's Great British Menu, where it earned rave reviews from the celebrity chef himself.

Brilliant is an award-winning, family-run North Indian Punjabi restaurant that offers authentic, fresh dishes, with a special emphasis on traditional Punjabi flavours with Kenyan-influenced recipes.

King Charles dined at Brilliant twice, including once with Camilla in 2008, trying dishes like butter naan, black daal, masala lamb, and chicken tikka masala, and praised the food as some of the best Indian food he had ever tasted.

Run by Gulu Anand, daughter Dipna Anand and son Shanker Anand, the restaurant has been passed down through three generations with a kitchen headed by Dipna.

Founded by Bishen Dass Anand in Nairobi in the 1950s, the restaurant evolved from a small eatery into what it has become today, with the Anand family continuing the legacy after relocating to Southall in 1973.

The restaurant grew from a small 30-seat establishment to a 220-seat venue with a cookery school and catering partnerships at venues like Chelsea Football Club, The O2, and Twickenham Rugby Stadium.

The closure of Brilliant comes amid increasing challenges in the hospitality sector, including rising costs and pressures from inflation, making it difficult for many restaurants to stay afloat.

While the Southall location is closing, Dipna has plans to open a new site under the Brilliant brand in Southall, called Brilliant Gastro, which is set to open in mid-April.
