New Delhi:- The Indian division of the German carmaker Volkswagen Group-Skoda Auto Volkswagen India-has achieved a major achievement by producing a 5 lakh med-in-India engine at its Chakan plant. This engine produced by the company is used in popular cars like Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun.
Along with this, these engines are also used in Skoda's Slavia sedan, Skoda Kushaq compact SUV and recently launched Skoda Kylaq Subcompact SUV. The company's Chakan plant produces locally produced models of Skoda and Volkswagen. The company is developing these models as part of the India 2.0 strategy.
Volkswagen's engine option
Talking about engines, Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia are sold in the market with two engine options, including the first 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine and second 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine. Where the first 1.0-liter TSI engine offers 113 bhp power and 178 Nm torque, and is paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
At the same time, the second, 1.5-liter TSI engine provides 148 bhp power and 250 Nm of torque, which has a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG transmission option. In July 2024, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certified the 1.0-liter TSI engine used in Skoda Kushaq and Slavia to suit the E20 fuel (20 percent ethanol and petrol mixture).
