In an earlier appearance on Indian Idol, Asha recalled that Rajesh Khanna was an “introvert” and “wouldn’t speak to anyone” in early days. She said, “Actually he was scared of me. Because he had just started his career so he would just be a little hesitant. One day, he looked at me and turned his face so I felt very bad. I said, ‘no dates’. After that, he was scolded. Then he called me and he said I didn’t mean it like that. He said it was because he was scared of me.”

Talking about the same on Arbaaz Khan’s show The Invincibles Series season 2, the actress recalled that it was filmmaker Om Prakash who started the rumour. “This is a long story. We were shooting in Mahabaleshwar and I don’t know what came upon Om Prakash ji, he declared that Shammi and I are married. Then there was a party at Mr Nasser Hussain’s place, people started whispering (about the marriage rumours). I said, ‘Yes, we are married.’ (Renowned journalist) Devyani Chaubal was also in the room. She heard the rumour,” She said.

Adding further, Asha revealed that Shammi told her to continue with the prank. However, his then-girlfriend got very upset after hearing the rumours. “He said, ‘Don’t tell anything.’ He was playing a prank (with everyone). At that time, he was having an affair with somebody. So that person got very upset.” Asha Parekh said.

Nasir Hussain was already married. I did not want to destroy their well-established home. Even if he had gotten divorced, the children would have suffered pain, and the house could have been ruined. That’s why I decided to suppress my desires and sacrifice love.”
