Suriya ’s highly anticipated period-action film 'Kanguva' was released in November last year under the direction of Siruthai Siva, but the film failed to meet its expectations. Meanwhile, the disastrous run of 'Kanguva’ has left its producer, Gnanavel Raja , in deep financial trouble. The massive losses incurred have created hurdles in the release of his other productions. One such film, ' Vaa Vaathiyaare ,' directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and starring Karthik and Krithi Shetty , has been completed for months but remains unreleased due to financial constraints. In a bid to support Gnanavel Raja, Suriya has reportedly stepped in to collaborate with him once again.
According to Asianet Tami, Suriya has agreed to star in two upcoming films under the production of 'Kanguva' makers. He is currently in discussions with prominent Telugu and Malayalam directors to finalize these projects, and an official announcement regarding the filmmakers is expected soon. Fans are keen to see how Suriya navigates this phase and makes a strong comeback.
Prior to its release, 'Kanguva' was promoted as a grand spectacle, drawing comparisons to ' Baahubali .'. The immense pre-release hype set sky-high expectations among fans and trade circles. However, Kanguva failed to meet these expectations, leading to widespread disappointment. From its very first day, the film faced severe criticism, quickly turning into a subject of online trolling. With an enormous budget of Rs 350 crore, 'Kanguva' was expected to be a box office juggernaut.
However, the film struggled to perform commercially, failing to even cross Rs 150 crore in earnings. This unexpected debacle marked one of the biggest setbacks in Suriya’s career. Following this failure, the actor has shifted his focus to his next project, ' Retro ,' which is directed by Karthik Subbaraj . The movie is slated for release on May 1, and fans are eagerly awaiting Suriya’s comeback, hoping he will regain his box office dominance.
