A new UPI scam called Jumped Deposit Scam has been reported by Karnataka Police. In this fraud, scammers first deposit money into your bank account and later trick you into authorizing an unauthorized withdrawal. Let’s understand how this scam works and how you can stay safe.
⚠️ What is the Jumped Deposit Scam?1️⃣ You receive a notification that someone has deposited money (e.g., ₹2000) into your bank account.
2️⃣ Out of curiosity, you open your UPI app to check the transaction.
3️⃣ At the same time, scammers send a withdrawal request using your UPI ID.
💡 Scammers rely on your habit of instantly checking your UPI app when you receive money.
🚫 How to Protect Yourself?✅ DO NOT check your UPI app immediately when an unknown deposit appears. Wait for 30 minutes to 1 hour before checking.
✅ If you suspect fraud, enter the wrong UPI PIN first. This will cause the scammer’s withdrawal request to fail.
✅ Enable transaction notifications to monitor suspicious activities.
✅ NEVER approve unknown UPI requests or enter your PIN without verifying the source.
✅ Report scams immediately at 1930 (Cyber Crime Helpline).
