Pune Fire Brigade on Thursday successfully rescued a 19-year-old man who was stuck in the middle of the river under the Mundhwa Bridge. At 06:18 AM, the Pune Fire Brigade Control Room received an urgent call for help, and a fire engine from the nearby BT Kavade Road fire station was immediately dispatched.

Upon reaching the location, the fire personnel saw the young man struggling to get out of the water. They quickly entered the river with the help of a rope, life jacket, and life ring, reassured him, and managed to pull him out safely within 15 minutes. He was then handed over to his parents, who were present at the scene.

Details on the circumstances that led to him being stuck in the river remain unclear. The rescue operation was carried out by Driver Nilesh Bhosale, Tandel Ambadas Darade, and firemen Sandeep Jagtap, Satish Potghan, and Kunal Ithape.

Contrary to popular belief that the fire brigade only extinguishes fires, it handles several kinds of emergency situations. The fire brigade deals with various types of rescues, from a man stuck in a tree to a mother and child locked by mistake inside a house.

At present, the Pune Fire Brigade has 10 tankers and 54 different types of engines in its fleet. However, 27 fire brigade vehicles and 5 tankers have been discarded from service due to the completion of their 15-year tenure as per RTO guidelines.

Currently, 27 vehicles and 5 tankers are left in service for the city fire brigade.
