A police case has been registered against 25 well-known Indian celebrities in Telangana for allegedly endorsing illegal betting applications. The complaint, filed by businessman Phaneendra Sharma, has led to a formal investigation against these actors and social media influencers.

Some of the actors mentioned in the Case Include Praneetha, Nidhi Agarwal, Ananya Nagalla, Sri Hanumanthu, Sreemukhi, Varshini Sounderajan, Vasanti Krishnan, Shobha Shetty, Amrutha Chowdhary Puvvani, Neha Pathan, Pandu, Padmavati, Imran Khan, Sonia, Visha, and Vasanti Among others.

The report in the field claims that such betting websites have been exploiting celebrities and influencers to market their websites and applications using social media ads. The marketing tactic has contributed immensely towards drawing users, resulting in massive gambling activities.

These illegal betting mobile apps have helped conduct business amounting to millions of rupees, bringing financial hardship to numerous families, mostly from middle and lower-middle-class families. The authorities have taken cognizance of the growing complaints about the effects of online betting, as it has contributed to financial instability and other social problems.

Telangana law enforcement agencies have stepped up their efforts to stop the spread of illegal gambling websites, bringing those involved to book for promoting such activities. The actors and influencers listed in the case are now being questioned for allegedly promoting online betting through their endorsements, which authorities believe helped spread these illegal websites.

The incident brings to light the increasing phenomenon of celebrities being employed to promote dubious products and services, especially online. Officials have cautioned public figures to become more responsible with their endorsement work, as they have the potential to directly affect the lives of their fans. Legal analysts believe that if the charges are confirmed, the persons involved may suffer severe repercussions according to Indian law, such as fines and even imprisonment.

This evolution has ignited debate regarding the moral obligations of celebrities in advertising. Critics opine that celebrities should thoroughly check the authenticity of brands prior to endorsing them, particularly if the products and services under consideration have the potential to lead to economic and social losses.
