Gangs of London fans have been on tenterhooks waiting for the return of the hit show, and tonight (March 20) their patience will be rewarded as the third series kicks off on Sky and Now.

The second series wrapped up in October 2022, meaning viewers have had a nail-biting two and a half year wait for the next chapter.

The British action thriller is a spin-off from the action-adventure video game The Getaway and its subsequent films.

The drama centres around the power struggles between rival gangs and criminal organisations in London, with the first season kicking off with the assassination of the head of the city's most powerful crime family, reports .

Season two ended on a high-octane note, packed with bloodshed, brawls and more twists and turns than a rollercoaster ride.

As his Paris assassination plot started to fall apart, rogue enforcer Elliot Finch (Sope Dirisu) took an axe to Billy Wallace's (Brian Vernel) arm before using him as leverage against his brother Sean and mother.

Sean (Joe Cole) realised that his mum Marian (Michelle Fairley) hadn't just collaborated with Albanian mafia boss Luan (Orli Shuka) to intercept a heroin shipment, but she'd also tipped off Elliot about its location. Finally seeing his mother's true colours, a distraught Sean strangled her in a fit of rage.

Elliot then phoned Sean with a list of demands, warning him that if he didn't comply, he would never see his brother Billy alive again.

In a dramatic turn of events, the ruthless Koba (Waleed Zuaiter) and his henchmen dragged Saba (Jahz Armando) into an Algerian cafe after discovering she had aided Elliot's Parisian revenge plan for her Uncle Basem's death.

However, before any harm could befall her, Sean made an appearance to request Koba's assistance as they plotted to kill Elliot.

But it became evident that Sean had a hidden agenda when he poisoned Koba's burger, acting on orders from Elliot to protect his brother.

In the climactic final confrontation, a brutal fight broke out which ended with Elliot strangling him and hoisting him onto a crane. As Elliot and Billy made their escape, the screen gradually faded to black.
